Ecosystems connect at many different levels. A backyard pond ecosystem includes plants, insects, fish, frogs, birds, and possibly a visiting cat. The backyard is a larger ecosystem and is part of the city block ecosystem.
Every ecosystem requires an energy source, organisms that take the energy and store it as chemical energy, and organisms that consume the chemical energy.
