Tree Rescue

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Search a 20x20 quadrat, rescue a tree by mulching and resetting tree collar, then  record status on field data sheet. This is preparation for school measurement field days in one hectare plot.  2100  trees, representing 76 species, were planted by volunteers in 2002/3.

Work location: ACER biodiversity/climate change laboratory, 

In the valley below the Humber College Arboretum along the Humber River.

Start and End Date:

Spring: Usually last 2 weeks in each of April and May

Fall:   Usually first 2 weeks in each of October and November

Time Commitment per season:  Spring and Fall Field Season from 1 day to 2 weeks to prepare for and close the school field work season

Training Session: at beginning of each season noted above.

NOTE: Volunteers could also work with students/schools during school field days as leaders as outlined below.
