Training and Workshops

Sign up here for OSY Summer Institute 2008!

Our School Yard-Measuring Our Resources (OSY) is ACER’s new program and is funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation.  Our School Yard explores the relationship between trees on school grounds and global climate change in both elementary and high schools.

ACER offers training and workshops on Our School Yard. Once certified, the trainer will help other teachers as well as students successully implement the project.

ACER offers 2 training Programs on OSY:

Teacher OSY Support Workshop:  this full-day workshop (or four 2 hour after school workshops) introduces teachers to the protocols and procedures of OSY.  After completion of this workshop, the teacher will have the knowledge to implement OSY into their classroom.  Upon successful completion of the workshop, the teacher receives a complete BioBag that includes all the tools and support necessary to implement the program in their classroom.

ACER hosts this workshop on Saturday or after school for 4 days (it is up to the discretion of the school).  We encourage schools in the vicinity of each other to host the workshops at one location.

Summer Institute:Train-the-Trainer:

An extensive 3-day course which trains individuals on the protocols of OSY as well as gives them the necessary tools to train other individuals, community groups and schools.

This course introduces teachers to mapping, using measuring tools such as DBH tape and new technology such as GPS.

Once completed, the trainer receives a certificate and can purchase a complete BioBag which includes all the tools necessary to complete the program. The trainer/teacher will receive annual support from ACER.  This includesa visit to your school the first day of implementation, one refresher course through the year and online/telephone support.

To arrange for your own Our School Yard Workshop for your group or school board contact ACER at (905) 275-7685 or email us at ourschoolyard@acer-acre.org.
